About this blog

It feels really egotistical starting a blog. I mean.., who really cares what I think about a meal I shared with my husband on the edge of Lake Como?

Well, maybe the fact that I'm not a professional food critic will provide a fresher and more realistic perspective than other options currently out there. I'm not interested in food trends, I will (unfortunately) be forced to pay for my meal and building a giant number of blog followers is not my primary motivator. Why am I doing it then? Well I often get asked for restaurant recommendations from friends when they are planning a trip and now I will be able to point them to Little Black Blog for detailed run-downs. Plus, my husband and I inevitably end up giving a review of the places we visit and taking photos over our meal anyway, so why not share them.

Another reason for the creation of 'Little Black Blog' is that it's a natural progression for the new business I am currently working on called 'Little Black Table'. More information here.....

Some points to note:
  • I am fussy. I am the nightmare diner who can rarely just order off the menu, instead requesting the dressing on the side or the dim sum steamed and not fried. When a restaurant can accommodate my fussiness I'm a happy girl and that contributes to my reviews of vibe and service.
  • My food preferences are for light, fresh, clean and simple flavours with very little dairy (no ravioli with four cheese sauce for me). The thought and effort put into side dishes of salad and vegetables are just as important to me as the steak.
  • I generally dine out with my husband, Sean. He's not a big one for writing so I'll record his comments as well. His dining preferences are the opposite of mine (red meat, pork belly, anything fried, rich and creamy sauces). Between us we cover pretty much all of the food chain.
  • We live in Adelaide, South Australia. Most blog entries are from our travels but I will also post on some restaurants close to home.
  • Many great meals have been had prior to starting this blog but unfortunately I can't recall all the details. I have included very brief entries of recent stand outs.
I wish I was a walking thesaurus as it's difficult to come up with endless options for the word “delicious”. Maybe that's why Rachel Zoe was forced to invent new adjectives such as "I die" or "that's bananas" as “fabulous” got a little repetitive. I'll see what I can come up with over time but for now there will just be a lot of "yum" and "tasty".
